weekend away

Alison House turned out to be fine for our purposes. Our room was big with two huge georgian windows looking out over the tree covered hillsides; very quiet and very easy place to be in.

We spent an hour or two on Saturday over at Hardwick Hall, I found the tapestries there very interesting..

I am, however, certainly feeling the cumulative effect of the chemo, couldn't stay out too long on Sat and had to return early today. Feel really washed out and floppy nearly all the time now.

DWP
Argh - I've claimed for a benefit now my statutory sick pay has run out and they've paid me for a bit and now they've sent me a huge other form to fill in ... with no real explanation of why ... I'm too weary to even read it all, really .... *sigh*

Internet Nits
Some of you have been in touch re being"banned" from a messageboard!!!
You have to laugh, cos yes, I have found enormous wells of good-will and kindness on the internet, but sadly there are still a few petty, small minded grudge-merchants out there who have been busy this week.

They are probably just ppl who found my sense of humour, or maybe just my intelligence, too much for them in on a board that I used for years in the the past. When I turned up in a "new" board (which, ironically, has the rule "the only rule is, there are no rules" and was set up by someone in repsonse to random acts of "moderation" ) these ppl's stories get me banned..

This was done on the basis of mysterious allegations which are not made public to other board users . So it appears that the only rule is "you can be as nasty as you like, so long as you do it in a clandestine and creepy way ..."

tsk

lucky they are a minority, and I still salute the squads of saner, kinder and loving ppl that I have been lucky enough to meet on-line over the years .. :)

Greetings from Corfu my lovely. I've been walking past this internet block all week and eventually couldn't resist.

Its been amazing out here. I've walked, eaten (lots), absorbed the amazing landscape, taken photos of just about everything and met lots of very lovely greek people along the way. Hotel is brilliant, right in the mountains so the view is somewhat enthralling. Can't wait to show you some photos... although I may have to filter out the 100 odd cloud/sky snaps! I've given that whole panoramic photography a whirl having seen some of your handy work not so long ago, so lets all have a laugh at how well/shockingly bad that turned out.

Anyways, sorry to hear it has been hitting you a bit harder recently. I'm no doctor (still), but I am running with the theory that if its knackering you out (technical term) then its working, so every cloud maybe...? And re. the Avastin break, if they thought there was a chance of the "crumbs" taking advantage, then I'm sure they'd look for other avenues.

*Sam turns stethoscope the right way round...*

In the meantime, you've got a fab half-term to look forward to. You off "camper vanning" it? ;o)

I get back on tuesday night (15th) but am off work wednesday so if you're feeling any better, give me a holler and I'll pop round for five. I got a little something for you both. I stumbled upon this lovely little arty type shop over on an island with a grand total of 1500 inhabitants. There was this lovely woman there who makes her own glass ware and I fell in love with it so bought a few bits and bobs back. Providing I can get it back in one piece and if you're not too ropey before I head back to Manchester, I'll drop it in.

Anyways, take good care. Speak to you SOOON.

hi Sue and Brigid - I'm at a loss as to what you are talking about re being banned but I shall move on regardless.
The hotel is called the Fernhill Hotel Lyme Regis. The therapist who offers Reflexology is named Emma and the no is 01297 560492 www.fernhill.hotel.co.uk
The most beautiful room was room no 2. Such info is always useful I feel.
So sorry the treatment is snowballing on you - they are 'bad' good chemicals. Speak to you soon, but given your tired state probably not today.
I didn't get to see 'Stile Lane' up close as the car broke down at the crucial moment. It was the Toyota and I'd only driven it for about 20 feet from the parking space to the caravan. The AA man requested that I be restricted in my access to cars - which I'm sure isn't the 'can do' attitude that I pay for.

LOL
oh dear Julie, shouldn't laugh .. but really .. perhaps they have a premuim rate that gets you fuzzy kindness from the AA as well as engineering! We'll look into the Fernhill place .. B is keen to get some treaments there - actually using some birthday treat monies generously sent her way by Jean (and her lovely partner) .. so you can be reminded of how kind SOME ppl you originally met through the internet can be!

@ Sam - you also cheered my with your comic sensibilities .. and of COURSE you can come and see me more or less anytime on Weds, as I'll be in hospital then .. mymatemand will be there sometime too that day, but I dont see you 2 as incompatible!

Slighly embarassed to only be doing the hospital run for the first time now but I'm a bit "iffy" when it comes to medical environments as I may have mentioned. (No excuse I know, but I'm gonna use it nevertheless!)

What hospital, ward, times etc...? Is it one of those wards where I could bring my laptop in and show you some photos on it or strictly no electrical beeping appliances allowed?

Shall be delighted to meet "yourmatemand".

it's a tiny place - just ask at the reception and they'll direct you to me - you can bring your photos on disc, I usually have my laptop with me ! good for DVD watching
you can come anytime too, easypeasy!

On that timely note (with me being one of these 'online' friends!) I thought I'd give a quick wave to show I'm still keeping up with progress reading the blog!

Best of luck with your next trip to the hospital -- I hope all goes well and you're not too exhausted when you come out.

Hardwick Hall is a gem! I love it there. And I particularly like all the stories about Bess of Harwick. She was one tough cookie! I am considering her for my next novel.

Hope it goes ok tomorrow with the next lot of juices. Will be thinking of you extra hard. Will be good to catch up on Thurs/Fri.

Many loves to you and B

hi - oh yes, Liz, that Bess of Hardwick is very interesting -- it was cos I'd read a bit about her that I especially planned our trip to include a run over to her place .. it is stunning. You can tell me more about Bess when you come .. looking forward to seeing you later this week.

@ greg - DEAR BOY!! how good to hear from you .. how long have we been on-line mates for? you were still in sixth form at school when we started .. and now look at you .. !

It's a bit over 8 years! I remember our going to the Three Tuns for my 18th, which would have been in 1999 :-)

Hi Sue, Cousin Poe here. Sorry u get the 'washed out' feeling. Guess chemo., has 2 b tuff 2 fight the aggressive Big C cells. I still 'ave trouble saying the word CANCER. The goal is 2 bring about the cure. I do hope u r feeling positive at the moment.

Re internet nits & messageboard: I don't no wat that is? I'm a novice & can only do basics. However, human nature has a dark side & 'wacko's' r just as active on tinternet as anywhere else. It's a full time career. You can well do without them, but 'whacko's' r like Big C cells, agressive & persistant.

DWP: O yes I do no a bit 'bout that place. If u say; 'I'm 2 ill or stressed-out 2 cope with forms, time deadline medicals, & even, wait 4 it:- work focused interviews. It all sounds so proffesional eh?
Common sense goes out the window. They just say, 'It's a government requirement'. 'It's the law'.
Red tape b*****ks! The fact that the doctor has already explained means f*** all 2 DWP.
You may guess I hate red-tape. I'm a common-sense supporter. Never mind!

I guess u b in hospital this wk so I'll c.u. a.s.a.p. so just try 2 relax & take gud care of u-self.
Lots of love 2 u & yours.
Cousin Poe. xx
