Thank you so much for spreading the word about 'race for life'.
When my partner Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer in June last year she said that she wanted to run the race for life in 2007 - partly as an incentive to keep fit and also to say thank you.
As you know she finished treatment a couple of weeks ago. We both feel incredibly happy and lucky that she is fit and well enough to train for the race.
So much progress has been made in terms of cancer research. Twenty years ago, the treatment option she would have had were a mastectomy and 'sea air'. As it is, she even got to keep her boob and there is medication that gives her the best possible chance of it never coming back.
We will also both be eternally grateful to whoever came up with anti-sickness drugs for chemo. Sarah's oncologist mentioned that most of that all happened within the last ten years - beforehand it was quite 'normal' for sufferers to throw up once every 30 minutes.
Everybody who has the misfortune to be diagnosed with cancer benefits from the cancer research initiatives. I really believe that their slogan 'together we can beat cancer' is true.

you are so right and I hope you two reach your £1000 target for Cancer Research
I am certainly benefitting from the anti-nausea drugs, and one of the chemo cocktail my oncologist is using is also fairly new

Sue as you know I've run in the 'Race for Life' for the last three years, and will be doing so again this year. I've done it to raise money towards Cancer Research, and on the day I've always been moved by the names and loving messages that other women wear on their backs. Names of people with or affected by cancer. Even though there always seem to be so many names I've tended to see them as a select group of people - and with respect not a group I wanted to join. But cancer itself isn't selective and it's chosen you along with too many others. So this year I'll be running/waking, maybe even standing still and 'enjoying' the view just like usual. But my thoughts will be on you.

it's just another reminder that one in three people in the UK will get cancer in their life
...
which obviously means nearly every damned one of us is going to be "touched" by it as relatives and friends ...
I ran this last year around Trentham Gardens... so definately signing up again this year. It was such a buzz to be running alongside everyone else, and I agree, the messages on peoples backs were so moving...

It would be wonderful to see you down here in June - but I think I would stop in my tracks if I saw you over the fence.
So any news on Lyme availability? actually there are two vans available for hire on the site. They are owned by the site owners and are of a very high caliber re maintenance and hygiene. I don't see you wanting to give up 5 star hotel luxury for a caravan, but it was just a thought. Speak soon, Julie

The Race for Life sounds a very positive step & it's good to know there is so much motivation around.
The sequined waist-coat looks great -just the sort of thing I might wear. I have looked for a poem & hope you like this one by W. Wordsworth.
I heard a thousand blended notes
