dressing up

It was Azrini's birthday yesterday, and B and I are celebrating 14 years together this week -- so we decided to have a good dinner together and use the opportunity to be all girly and dress up. We had a great night, and they drank nothing but champagne the whole evening!

I got to wear the Cocktail dress (that is too big now and droops down at the back - but it still looks OK at the front).
B wore her newly cleaned "retro" 50's dress (which I love) and Azrini was subtle in dark blue velvet. She is saving her beaded dress for her Big Night Out in Gray's Inn later this month .. such exalted friends we have!

Dunno why I cant sleep -- been ups since 4am -- this is rare, especially considering how whacked I am most of the time ... hey ho

here are the pics:

hmm - we are showing off our twinkly shoes, obviously, not trying to fly!

and Azrini is showing off her new lippy!

Hi, It's cousin Pauline again.
Glad you are feeling better. Belated birth greetings to Azrini who may, or may not remember me.

Will send you an email one day soon Sue. Then I can get pics.
Anyway I have found a poem in book so here goes again:-

THE NIGHT HAS A THOUSAND EYES
by Francis William Bourdillon

The night has a thousand eyes,
And the day but one;
Yet the light of the bright world dies
With the dying sun.

The mind has a thousand eyes,
And the heart but one;
Yet the light of a whole life dies
When love is gone.

Hope you like it.
take care. Love. Pauline x

phew -I think wa are all suffering from performance anxiety now that you have posted those amazing pics! Julie really did you proud on the dinners front! Great to hear that you had a good time with Julie and did some serious shopping. The one in three count for Primark will become normal btw, it is always that way in Manchester and the crowds dont even die down! I've been dancing this weekend (what a surprise!). did a lovely day of 'flow' which meant concentrating on being grounded and responding to instinct. It was very rich and delicious, and made better by the fact that it was taught by my friend Clare, who is a new teacher and was very thrilled to be doing her first day workshop with a really good crowd of dancers! A very happy day!

Hey you.

Sorry, I have been massively out of action for quite some time now... a lot of family stuff to sort out, but we're getting there.

Rest assured I have just completed the compulsory marathon read, and feel well and truly back up to date with things here.

Really glad to hear the radio is behind you... seems like you're ploughing through all this with increasingly energised spirits. I'm so proud. You're definately someone I aspire to be like. (And believe me, there's not many people I can say that about.) It must be uplifting knowing how far you've come now. And with a lovely Christmas just round the corner... I wish you the best of yuletide happiness.

Anyways, I'll get back on the email with a few "funnies" coming your way later on today. They always serve to keep my mind occupied.

Take care for now, lots of love.

Hi Suze. Just popping in to say hello again. I bet you all looked lovely in those dresses and I am looking forward to seeing the pics. I get lots of early wake-ups and sitting around at 4 in the morning. Some people find that time too early and feel kind of lost, but since I stopped fighting it and just go to bed early that night to compensate, I find that time of the morning quiet and good for gentle introspection and counting my blessings. I sort of imagine I can hear my friends and loved ones breathing in their sleep and I like the thought of them all snug and secure. Soppy or what? I get a lot of emails off to friends then! Keep on taking such good care of yourself and congratulations to you both for your 14 years so far. :) Christine

hi Keiran, the dinner nice, but it wasn't a patch on sister's cooking - we had champagne and fresh pomegrante juice for aperitifs, then we had an avocado salad, followed by roast chicken with dauphniose potatoes and sugar snap peas. The desert was spiced plums and cream with a chocolate birthday cake to end it .. by then they were drinking "proper" champagne cocktails with sugar, brandy and bitters ... gulp.

@ Pauline, oh aye, Azrini remembers you, "once seen... etc... " Your poetry choices seem a bit on the gloomy side just lately .. are you feeling a bit low yourself?

hi Liz - you're not kidding re Julie's food - and she seems to be in the kitchen for not very long and then there are these fabulous dishes .. I'm glad you and the rest had a great dance weekend .. and I got your phone message - will call you later.

@ sam - aw -- you sweetie!
AND dont forget the reading room recruitment drive tomorrow night!

Wow, these are great! I get your point about dressing up - it is worth it!

PS. Really enjoyed today but Matt does not really like those beads! And to be fair they do not look as good as I thought they will do! S*it! Will have to take them back..

suze said...

@ kasia -- oh shame about the beads --- maybe you can save them to decorate a dress!!!
I love dressing up .. that dress is funny - more like a wedding dress than the things I actually wore when we got married.

I think there is a bit of a drag queen in me! Actually I might scan a pic of what I wore for my 40th Birthday -- which was VERY drag queen, head to toe Frank Usher black sequins!

@ keiron - re SL revision, whatever you do, dont watch that useless video, and DO memorise that model essay plan /stucutre thing that I gave out last year .. you really need to stick to that plan and it should be in the bag! :)

Suzie you all look stunning in your glad rags - three princesses together (although obviously only one celeb princess)
Thanks for being such lovely company this week and for being such an appreciative audience for my cooking.I've suggested to TJ and J that they take note but they took on a glazed look in response.
Aunty Pauline appears to be focusing on the sadder aspects, is she okay?

@ christine -- It is very rare for me to be awake in the night, but I agree that if I AM awake I may as well make a virtue out of it -- it's esp easy to do that when you dont have to sparkle at work and I can nap whenever I need to ! I will also get around to replying to your email, one of these days.. xxxxxx

You did reply! Anyway, your blog would be reply enough, and those smashing pics of you smiling and looking so gorgeous. In fact, all three of you looking really lovely and very sexy! :)

Hi Suze - you all look absolutely stunning! Great to see you so happy and soooooo glam!
I'm sure all of us bloggers would love to sign up for some mail order food from Julie - when is she setting up her own website so we can start ordering online? x

haha - thanks for all the flattery -

@ ali - I did suggest to Ju that she could earn her keep by such means, but she just laughed. btw - did you try my very simple chicken dish?

@ christine -- you see? I'm far more than ususlly dozy atm .. I keep forgetting things ... tho when I put it to Julie that this was an aspect of "my condition" she turned from "sympathetic sis" back to "normal sis" and pointed out that my advanincg years were a more likely culprit! hmmmm ...
